This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

My students come to occupational therapy to support improving their attention, body regulation, and writing skills through the use of our sensory calming corner and writing centers. Both the calming sensory corner and writing centers are used throughout the day by all our students receiving OT services. Currently, the therapy space is located in the second-floor hallway/nook. The four-foot room dividers are not tall enough to block off our space to incoming classes. When the classes are transitioning to the next period, my students and I can see a sea of eyes staring at us. There have been many awkward moments when you are trying not to look when the students and sometimes teachers are staring at you. What can you do but smile back? My students try to stay focused, but it is distracting for many of my students who have attention difficulties. Having taller room dividers will provide a dedicated space that is more private to help my students stay focused, engaged, and participate without interruptions.

By donating to my project, you will not only help to improve and increase student attention and focus, you will ultimately help to increase their academic achievement.

Having privacy and dedicated spaces with the use of taller room dividers will increase my students' ability to stay focused during our therapy sessions.
