Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

My special education students are the most challenged individuals who come from a rural community located in the lower Rio Grande Valley in Texas. They have many great qualities, however, some of their learned behaviors that stem from either their upbringing and/or environment cause them to be unmotivated, unfocused, and/or not have any kind of goals in their lives. The items requested were based on their choices and their goals to attain them.

Many behavioral enthusiasts would agree with me that providing a conditioned reinforcer such as a Gatorade, a toy, a snack, or a lead pencil will act as a catalyst to facilitate student learning and their goal to attain their request by demonstrating an improvement in their classwork, behavior, and/or social skills.

Accomplishing their goals takes discipline and perseverance on their part.

Special education students with learning disabilities have a challenging mindset, especially when their environment or upbringing does not lend itself to motivate them to be self-disciplined. Teaching them to set goals, maintain their focus, and be self-disciplined will improve their academic skills, amplify their understanding of choices, and stimulate their willingness to work harder. There is definitely “Nutter Butter Than This” to show them how much we care about how hard they work to attain their desired goals.
