Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
Many of our students returned back to school after the pandemic with a variety of physical and emotional health concerns. One of the most alarming concerns is the increased rate of overweight students within our school community.
Our school is located in a "food swamp" area, where fast food and junk food are more accessible, both geographically and economically, than healthy alternatives.
Because of this, students often consume sugary snacks and drinks over those with more nutritional value.
This year, our school established a Wellness Council to ensure we are providing students with high quality physical and health education. One of our major units of teaching has been Nutrition. We intend to use these resources as visual aids to support our nutrition lessons. Additionally, we plan to display these resources in our cafeteria as a way to expose students more to the information, as well as encourage lunch time conversations around nutrition.
