My Project

"To be antiracist, is to commit to a lived, liberated practice of continuous work toward the goal of equity, justice and freedom... To be antiracist is to commit to love." -Dr. Sonja Cherry Paul. Inspired by Dr. Cherry Paul, I believe my classroom needs to be equipped with picture books and chapter books that will foster identity-inspiring experiences. Children should be able to see themselves in the books that they read.

This project will enrich my classroom library with a selection of books that address racial literacy.

These carefully chosen titles will serve as tools to initiate meaningful conversations about race, diversity, and inclusion among my third-grade students. By integrating these books into our curriculum, I aim to create an environment where students can explore and understand different perspectives, fostering empathy and critical thinking.

My students are a diverse group of curious and enthusiastic learners who bring a wide range of cultural backgrounds and experiences to our classroom. They are eager to learn about the world and are open to engaging in meaningful conversations about complex topics. Their unique perspectives enrich our classroom discussions, and they demonstrate a genuine interest in understanding and appreciating differences. By introducing literature that addresses racial literacy, we can harness their natural curiosity and support them in becoming compassionate, informed, and socially conscious individuals.
