Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Do you love math? I do and I want the same for my students! I teach a wonderful group of students at a Title I school. Over 70% of the students are Hispanic and are still learning the English language.

My students love to learn and want to be successful, especially in math.

Due to the language barrier and other socioeconomic factors, my students are not currently working on their grade level. They do not have the necessary prior knowledge or materials at home and have fallen behind their peers in mathematics. Many of them are not enthusiastic about learning math because it is overwhelming for them. It is hard for them to learn material on their grade level because they lack number sense and the basic skills.

My students would benefit from a variety of resources that would help them to develop their number sense. Hands-on activities, such as the complete set of Lakeshore Touch and Match Math Cards and the Treasure Box Counting would allow my students to strengthen their number sense skills and promote cooperative learning. Knowledge of number sense is the key to success in Mathematics, and these activities would be perfect for my students who struggle. The various classroom incentives would be the perfect way to encourage participation and keep the students actively engaged.

These materials will help me to teach my students the skills that they need. Please consider donating to this project!
