This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I am a middle school Social Worker in the heart of the South Bronx seeking funding for real time translators to seamlessly communicate with my students who are still learning to speak the English language.

My primary role at our school is to support students' emotional wellbeing yet I am frequently unable to do so without the aide of a translator due to being monolingual and this means that confidentiality of sensitive subjects children want to share with me often are left out of conversations.

Technology has provided a solution to the language barrier by creating a device that simultaneously translates my words in English to whatever language the student understands via an earbud that the student wears and visa versa from their spoken language to me in English. This device will allow confidentiality to be maintained allowing me to provide the best emotional support to my students.
