My Students

My students are fun, resilient, caring, and eager to learn. They are all unique and lovable in their own special ways. They live and grow up in a low income neighborhood and go to an inner city school. All my students are English language learners. I hope to create a classroom that is equitable, accessible, welcoming and engaging for them.

Positive, hardworking, persistent and enthusiastic, my students continue to try their best and make great effort to learn.

As they begin their journey in Kindergarten, I want to provide them varied and effective tools that will help them to engage in learning.

My Project

I am a proud teacher who has taught for Kindergarten for 20 years. In Kindergarten, one of the most important skill is for students to know their alphabet. If they are automatic in knowing the letter names, then learning the letter sounds, decoding, and encoding becomes easier and less daunting.

Alphabets help to "form the basis of our language and communication for a lifetime.

" Learning the alphabet lay the first stepping stones to learning the alphabetic principle. It will prepare students to move on to connecting sounds to the letter symbols, to decoding and reading words, to spelling and writing words. To help my students who struggle with learning the alphabet, I hope to get these alphabet manipulatives funded. They will be a vital and much needed resource that we can use year after year.
