Novels Make Better Readers

Help me give my students two class sets of novels in our curriculum.

My Project

I am requesting a class set of The Crossover by Kwame Alexander because it is a featured text selection in our new curriculum. Students really connect with the main character, a middle school basketball player struggling to define himself. I'd like to analyze the novel in verse as a whole rather than just the three selections found in our textbook. We will look for narrative elements like plot, characterization, figurative language, dialogue, and story sequencing.

My goal is to expand on the text selections in our new ELA curriculum.

To that end, I'm also requesting a class set of A Wrinkle in Time by Madeleine L'Engle, a classic also featured in our new textbook. It is a story of family and freedom, and one middle school students really enjoy.

I have also requested single copies of the other books featured in our new textbook so I can read them and ask for class sets next year!
