Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are in the year of transition. This will be their last year in elementary school. I cannot wait to see what is in store for this school year. The children have been together since kindergarten at my school so it has been nice and to see them grow as individuals.

My hope is that my students will learn as much as they can and are willing to share ideas with one another.

My school has 80% of students receiving free or reduced-price lunches. We are established in a Spanish-speaking community.

My Project

Providing my students with different reading selections through carefully selected novels keeps them interested. By using novels I can supplement what is provided in the classroom and engage my students beyond the classroom.

Literacy instruction needs to provide students with reading material they find interesting and engaging.

In order to achieve this, we need to continue to expand our classroom library with fresh novels.

We need a classroom set of the novel written by Katherine Applegate, "The One And Only Ivan". Fresh stories will provide my classes an opportunity to become engaged in the classroom.
