My students need fiction books that are interesting and connective. Students often have a hard time connecting to books that they have to read in school. The Outsiders is a book that students actually enjoy.

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My classroom is a freshmen English class at a very large high school. The students that I teach, slightly over 100 in a day, are mainly composed of Hispanic descent.

They are always trying their hardest as well as trying to further themselves in regards to having opportunities to succeed.

Books are always the answer!

The majority of my students receive free and reduced lunches, so they do not have the funds to buy new and exciting books to read.

My Project

Reading is an essential part of high school English and I think it is important to give students the opportunity to read books that they will enjoy.

I believe that if we had the necessary materials then there wouldn't be anything these students couldn't achieve.

The Outsiders is a connective text that most students enjoy.

Completing a novel study would be a great asset to our learning process in English. During this project, students will expand their knowledge by analyzing the text, connecting with the characters, and reflecting on the plot. They will become more efficient readers by the end.
