My Project

With your support of this project, I will be able to use copies of the book, Ninth Ward, to teach my middle school students about the impact of natural disasters in struggling communities. I will be able to boost reading comprehension by applying explicit reading strategies and skills to an engaging text. Using the HMH curriculum’s anchor charts as a guide (which is why I’ll need the laminator and clear plastic frames), I will be able to dive into the book and incorporate hand-on activities and collaborative projects to bolster learning.

I want my students to walk away with an in-depth knowledge of how Hurricane Katrina impacted Louisiana, and how today’s hurricanes similarly uproot lives and disproportionately affect underserved communities.
