My Students
I absolutely love my job and my students! They are fun, creative, and curious about the world around them. Being in a very rural area, it can be hard for students to access quality reading materials from local libraries since the nearest is 20 miles away from our small community. Our school library struggles because we do not have a certified librarian on staff. It is hard to keep up with the trends and what is relevant to our students and their current lives.
Many of my male students are interested in literature about wars.
I also have several students that love graphic novels. I would love to be able to provide them with access to quality and current text selections here at school!
My Project
My reading classes revolve around novel studies. Students love to help me choose our next novel to read. I am asking for help purchasing them for my classroom. We do whole class reads in class, so I need enough for every student to have their own copy.
Students will discuss themes within the novel and work in groups to analyze literary devices found in the novel and their affect on the author's mood and tone.
We also do a lot of new vocabulary work throughout our novel studies to help with comprehension.
