My Students

As a Health/Phys Ed teacher, I see how poverty affects my students. I see how they cannot come in properly dressed because of the low income household that they live in. I see open toed sneakers and tank tops in 30 degree weather. This is what our entire school population consists of. These students would never ask for help, however they deserve to be nurtured and and feel comfortable while playing in the gym.

It would be so wonderful to have additional clothing on hand or an extra pair of sneakers, an extra snack when they feel hungry, or a bottle of cold water when they feel thirsty.

During our Health classes we encourage as much bottled water as possible as our fountains contain lead. With all of this in mind, I thank you in advance from the bottom of my heart on this #bestschoolday event!

My Project

Physical fitness should be a priority in a Young child’s life . Unfortunately , this is not the case in the lives of my students. Majority of my students live in public housing in NYC. The conditions are less than desireable. The free breakfast that our school provides is not enough to get them through the morning. That’s where my Physical Education classes help out. I provide daily snacks to help these

students play to the best of their abilities and make them feel good about themselves.

I stress how important exercise is on a daily basis. I stress how important it is to help them focus on school. Any support I receive to continue what I am doing will be greatly appreciated. The boys and girls faces light up when they are offered a snack. Some come in very late because their parents can’t get them in on time. Therefore , there is no time for daily breakfast. My staff knows that the gym is always available to help any child in any way, but our resources are getting low . It’s very hard to do it on my own. No teacher wants to let their students down. Thank you all in advance for your support and seeing how juata little bit of nourishment goes a long way !
