My Students

My students are smart, creative, and community-minded. They are interested and curious about the world around them. They want to understand why the inequities exist in our society, so that they can figure out how to challenge and transform our society.

My students are facing so many challenges during this pandemic, and they still do their best to attend their classes on zoom and stay engaged each day.

They amaze me with the many ways they are able to handle their multiple roles in their homes.

We are a Title I school, so we need a lot of extra resources, especially if we want to order supplies or class sets of books. A high percentage of students receive free and reduced-price lunch, so it is also another financial burden for families to purchase extra supplies.

My Project

This week, we transitioned to hyrbrid learning. Some of our students are coming to campus everyday and some are still at home participating in remote learning. We have had to adjust to a whole new schedule and way of doing everything. We are taking all of the precautions to keep students safe and healthy. What we still need to consider is how all of the adjustments and how being back in the building might cause students some new anxieties, new worries, and stress.

All of these changes create a lot stress and exhaustion, so I wanted to give my students some coloring books, poetry books, art supplies, and snacks to help them destress during the school day and after school.

I hope that all of these things will help remind my students to take breaks and relax throughout the school day and when they get home.
