This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

In the past, I have noticed how healthy snacks play a pivotal role in empowering my kids living in an urban, low-income area to succeed. They offer numerous benefits, including improved concentration and focus, sustained energy levels, and enhanced physical health. Nutrient-rich snacks not only aid cognitive function but also support overall well-being by reducing illness rates, promoting positive eating habits, and stabilizing mood. In handing a student a healthy snack, we can increase school attendance and academic performance, offering my kids a better chance at a successful future!

For the human mind to effectively learn, physical needs like hunger must be met for the brain to be able to process and create critical thinking.

My students deserve access to quality foods with high nutritional value to nourish their young minds! Help us heal by providing a snack during break, after-school tutoring, or for many sometimes a meal for the day. Healthy snacks are a powerful tool in breaking the cycle of food insecurity and improving the prospects of success for my students facing adversity.

Additionally, as an environmental science educator and Latina, the impact of diet is deeply intertwined with our daily struggles and affects our current environmental state. In our neighborhoods, access to affordable, nutritious food can be limited, forcing us to rely on cheaper, processed options that often have a larger environmental footprint. The harsh reality is that many of my students can only afford cheap, toxic food in their neighborhoods. The snacks I am requesting are unfortunately a luxury for my kids because they are made of organic or sustainably sourced foods. Please help to provide sustainable, nourishing food to my kids!
