My Students

My students are smart, creative, and community-minded. They are interested and curious about the world around them. They want to understand why the inequities exist in our society, so that they can figure out how to challenge and transform our society.

My students are facing so many challenges during this pandemic, and they still do their best to attend their classes on zoom and stay engaged each day.

They amaze me with the many ways they are able to handle their multiple roles in their homes.

We are a Title I school, so we need a lot of extra resources, especially if we want to order supplies or class sets of books. A high percentage of students receive free and reduced-price lunch, so it is also another financial burden for families to purchase extra supplies.

My Project

We will be back to in-person learning this school year. There will be a lot of adjusting and shifting to do in order to get us used to learning in the classroom again. Since we will not be on the computer all day, students will need supplies to keep all of their assignments in order. Keeping a notebook will be a way for my students to document and celebrate their learning.

In addition to supporting my students' emotional and mental health, I would like to help my students learn organization skills by having them keep a daily notebook for our class.

We will use the notebooks daily and they will keep the notebooks in our class. Hopefully, this way, students will be able to keep track of all of their assignments for our class -- no more assignments getting lost in backpacks. I know that staying organized can help decrease stress and build confidence, so I hope learning these skills will set a good foundation for the rest of their high school experience.
