I am a Science Specialist in an elementary school with a very high population of free and reduced lunches. Our students need help and encouragement in writing. If we had a Tops composition book for each student in grades 3-5, it would give the students a sense of ownership in their writing. They would personalize their writing books and would use them for Science Notebooking. This is a very carefully taught hands on inquiry based writing about focused observations of science experiments. The students get very excited as they watch their notebook grow and become a valuable learning tool.

Our state and district have NO money this school year for any of the extras that make learning fun. In fact, they are making so many cuts that it is bound to affect the students. We are in desperate need of Tops marbled composition books for these students. My students are unable to purchase these books for themselves!

With these Tops composition books, I will have the opportunity to teach students to closely observe and write about their science experiments. Research has shown that the more students write across the curriculum, the more they learn. At this point my students are very slow with their writing. By using the Notebooking technique, the students will rapidly improve.
