Not Just a Classroom, But Our Home Away From Home

My Project

A classroom isn’t just a classroom; it’s a home away from home. Students spend eight hours, five days a week in my classroom.

My objective is not only to teach and keep my students safe but also to provide them with a room that is comfortable and relaxing for their young bodies and minds.

Although to most a rug is just a rug, in a classroom it can be considered the center point of a classroom. The gathering area for meetings and important discussions. It’s where laughing and learning happen. Stories are read and students become comfortable.

Walls and hard floors can echo and give students a hard time focusing. Rugs also help eliminate and reduce sounds and ground-level vibration. This helps to create a calm learning environment where students can focus with less distraction.

I’ve been teaching for thirteen years now and I’ve yet to be able to add a decent and durable rug that will be able to last through year-long activities.
