My Project

As a 4th and 5th grade teacher, it has come to my attention over the last couple of years how awkward "that time of the month" can be for beginners. Our school is fortunate enough to have great school nurses who have basic supplies for our young women and are willing to teach them the basics of hygiene care.

This past year our school was able to pass out menstrual pouches for our fourth grade ladies during their "talk", using donated pencil pouches.

Our goal for the upcoming school year and hopefully years to come is to have waterproof sanitary pouches prepared to supply students in need. The waterproof material will be easier to sanitize, because messes do happen!

This is a great way to start building hygiene health awareness in blooming young ladies. We plan to pass these materials out along with menstrual/hygiene health pamphlets and other basic hygiene items. According to an article published by John Elflein, "A survey in 2021 found that more than 7 in 10 teens had questions about their periods". Our goal is to use these pouches and materials to help support our young women and to make them more comfortable and confident in asking important questions about their health.
