My Students

"I think I can! I think I can!" This is how kids with low self esteem feel about themselves. I want to change their thinking to: "I KNOW I can! I KNOW I can!" The way to do that is to build their self esteem by giving them a wide knowledge of books to practice and improve their reading.

My students come from a mostly lower socio-economic demographic, and many do not speak English at home.

Most of the students qualify for a free lunch, have limited resources at home, and stay at school until the early evening because of their hard working parents who are trying to make it. Our school does its best to inspire the kids and bring the curriculum to life. But the challenges of limited budgets and language barriers make that mission difficult.

My Project

Many times children who are struggling readers have a very low self esteem. This leads them to be bullied or to feel inferior to bully others. The book "Bullying in Schools" will inform my students on this important topic. They will learn what bullying is, what it looks like, and what they need to do to be safe. It will provide my students the access to survive bullying behavior in school. My students' confidence will strengthen when books on bullying will be read aloud to them and will be open for discussion. It is important for children to learn about bullying and how to prevent it from happening. The NOOK will be used by my struggling readers, who have no confidence in reading. The cases with protect my devices. It will be used to motivate them to learn to read. Not only can they practice their reading, but when they want a book read to them they can choose that option. When kids can choose, it motivates them to read. When kids listen to stories, they learn how to read.

I want to in-still the love of reading for my low performing students so that their self esteem will enable them to become strong leaders.

This way, they will be successful and NOT be bullied. All children need to feel safe and confident in the classroom. They must be given equal opportunity to succeed. As a teacher, I need to provide them access to thrive in both the classroom and the world. They will feel safe and will not be put down because they are not fluent readers.
