Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

My students are bright, curious, and eager to learn more about the world around them. One of their favorite things in our classroom is when I bring in my personal copy of National Geographic Kids—they take turns reading it, asking questions, and talking about what they’ve learned. But with only one copy to share, not everyone gets the chance to explore it deeply. This project will change that.

With a full class subscription to Scholastic News, Science Spin, and Time for Kids, every student will have access to age-appropriate, high-interest nonfiction texts in both print and digital formats.

These magazines are filled with current events, science discoveries, and real-world connections that help students grow as readers and thinkers. Time for Kids even reads the articles aloud in English and Spanish—perfect for my newcomers who are still developing their language skills.

To make reading even more accessible and engaging, I’m also requesting book bag pouches so students can safely take their reading home, book lights to encourage bedtime reading, and guided reading strips to help students stay focused and build fluency. These small tools make a big difference—especially for struggling readers or those without strong support at home.

With your help, my students will not only have better access to nonfiction, they’ll have the tools and motivation to read independently, build confidence, and develop a lifelong love of learning.
