My Project

Our classroom is filled with the poetry of Shel Silverstein, the adventures of Jack and Annie in The Magic Tree House series, and the humor from Dogman, but nonfiction has not captured their hearts ... yet. But watch out once our voracious readers get ahold of Scholastic News magazine!

Our students are delightful, motivated, inquisitive and fun!

Our classroom is 48 2nd and 3rd grade students at a constructivist charter school in California. We are also a magnet so students from many different backgrounds and cultures get to know each other.

With the Scholastic News magazine, the students will get to know the world outside their classroom door. They will immerse themselves in the Year of the Dragon festivities. They will learn what life is like in South Korea from the perspective of a twelve year old girl living in Seoul. They will discover the world’s smallest frog in Papua New Guinea. They will see what events inspired their favorite authors as they read various interviews from kid reporters. They will discover the possibilities of their world and within themselves.

Scholastic News magazine will help these students become critical thinkers and aware citizens.
