My Students

Non-fiction books are a great asset in my classroom. The sight of five-year-olds grabbing books about bats, marsupials, and trees is a heartwarming sight that I would like to see more often.

I am a kindergarten teacher in a rural school district in South Carolina.

Currently, I have 19 very energetic and eager learners who crave facts about all things living especially furry, crawly things. I would like to provide them with as many resources as possible to broaden their horizons.

My Project

I am requesting a set on nonfiction books about animals for my students. The new core curriculum standards encourage the use of more nonfiction books in the classroom. I would like to provide my students with as many of these kinds of books as possible. My children enjoy studying new nonfiction themes each week and I would use the wonder books to supplement our weekly themes and to teach the new common core standards. In addition, I am asking for the jumbo animal set to be used in accordance with our weekly themes. The animals will be placed in our learning centers for students to use in dramatic play. Hands-on animal fun will be great!
