Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students love coming to school and are always eager to learn. The students in my school come from diverse backgrounds and have a variety of needs. They are enthusiastic, caring, and full of life. My students thoroughly enjoy reading, especially series books!

I work in a Title I school in Brooklyn, New York, which means my students come from low-income homes.

All of my students receive free breakfast and lunch. Even though they face challenges, they are always striving to do their best.

My Project

Nonfiction reading and writing units make up a large amount of the third-grade curriculum. This school year the students in my class need low leveled texts in order to make grade-level content accessible to them.

The students will use these books to research animals and as mentor texts for information writing.

They will also read these texts independently and use them for a group research project.

Many students who are low leveled learners feel discouraged when they can not complete grade level work. Having a large variety of non fiction texts, makes students feel more confident in their abilities to learn and complete work independently.
