My Students

Do you love discovering new things? So do my 4th and 5th graders. With the new Common Core Standards they are expected to read more non-fiction books. I want to provide them with lots of choices to expose them to all kinds of new and exciting things!

My students attend public school in Manhattan.

They are special education students in 4th and 5th grade. My students love to learn and are constantly asking questions about the world around them. They love to share their experiences with each other!

My Project

Most of my students only have chances to see the city when we take them on trips. Exposing them to these non-fiction books will help to expand their worlds and introduce them to new and exciting topics. These books will take them on travels to new countries, or help them meet new people within biographies.

With the new Common Core learning standards it is becoming increasingly important to expose children to all types of books.

My students, like the general education students have to take the same tests. These tests will have Common Core level passages and this will be challenging for my students. The more exposure they have before the test, the better chance they have to succeed.
