My Students

I have a class of preschool special needs students who love coming to school! They know that each day will be filled with exploring their worlds and adventures in learning. I am frequently asked upon arrival, "What are we doing today, Teacher?'. My students are eager to learn and participate!

I teach preschoolers with varying disabilities in an area that is socio-economically disadvantaged.

Neither the school nor the parents have money to contribute to my program which requires a lot of consumables, manipulatives, and hands on activities through which the children learn. I have 15+ eager and excited 3 and 4 year olds who love to come to school. They learn not only through my direct instruction, but through play, exploration, music and movement, and listening to stories. Coming to school gives them opportunities to learn that they are unlikely to get by staying home. I have a real passion for making a difference in the lives of the children I am fortunate enough to have placed in my classroom.

My Project

The Taxi-Trikes that I have chosen to use during outdoor centers will give my non-ambulatory students the opportunity to experience riding a trike, as opposed to having to watch their ambulatory peers have fun experiencing the trikes. It will also foster interactions with ambulatory peers who will be able to give their classmates a ride. Ambulatory peers will also develop stronger gross motor skills as they will pedal and steer their friends around the track. This Taxi-Trikes will give an opportunity for inclusion with all students in a play area which is limited in choices for students with physical challenges.

Donations to this project will make outdoor play more equitable for students who are limited in what they are able to accomplish physically.

The availability of two Taxi-Trikes for use during our outdoor play block will create an environment of cooperative learning, social interactions, and language and gross motor development. It will create fun which aligns with happiness for the students!
