Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

As a first grade teacher, I am eager to make every minute count. I know how much growth can happen during this year. My students have lots of potential. Most of them come from homes of parents who work two or three jobs to support their families. Almost all of my students receive free lunch due to their income level.

In first grade, my students need to learn their letters, letter sounds, how to blend letters to make words and how to find patterns in spelling to help them read and write. They also need to learn how to add and subtract very quickly. I have been using notebooks to practice all these skills. My students tend to waste time when they get their pencils and erasers ready (which are a hot commodity in class). They also get board using the same old tool (the pencil) to write with.

I need a class set of magic boards (magnetic write and wipe boards). My colleague just got these amazing magic boards from a donor at donorschoose and her children get so excited when they use these boards. These boards are will be used for years to come, without the need for waisting time with sharpening pencils and looking for the right notebook.

These boards will serve two purposes. First, they will eliminate the time that is wasted looking for pencils and giving out notebooks. Second, they will motivate my students to answer the questions I will ask in a fun and exciting way. Please help me motivate my students to do their best in writing and math. I know my student will love using these magic boards!!!
