Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

If you met the kids in my class in the Bronx, you would understand why I want the best for them! Every morning I am greeted by 18 eager four-year-olds coming to school for the first time, bursting with promise, personality, and potential. Hearing their conversations, their questions, and their aspirations make every day start and end with smiles and joy.

We are a Title I school comprised of 87% ELLs, with numerous families in shelters or doubled and tripled up in single-family apartments.

For many, school is the safest, most stable, part of their lives.

If children learn to think creatively, they have a foundation for success. I would love to have a paper shredder for my classroom. Shredding, instead of trashing the paper we use each day, will provide us with an open-ended material that stimulates creativity; it can be used for paper maché, stuffing for 3D projects, become grass, hair, clouds, etc.

When children are given opportunities to truly be creative, there are notable changes in their thinking, learning, and conversation skills. They can learn to be creative problem-solvers, independent thinkers, and productive citizens. That's just what we want!

My Project

I would love to have a shredder for my classroom.Instead of trashing all the paper the children use, we can shred it with a strip-cut shredder . This will provide us with an open-ended material that can stimulate creativity and invention! For example, the shreds can serve as a basis for paper maché, act as stuffing for three-dimensional creations, be grass, hair, volcanic eruptions, clouds, etc.

When children are given opportunities to truly be creative, there are notable changes in their thinking, learning, and conversation.

This is what I want for them, so that they can learn to be creative problem-solvers, independent thinkers, and productive citizens.
