My Students

So much depends upon a broken chair leg. The drama that one tiny piece of missing metal can cause in a classroom of teens is simply amazing. Students rush to class to avoid sitting in the wobbly "broken" chair, and distract the class by rocking and thumping in our cracked and footless seats.

My students live in close-knit neighborhoods and remote farms in our small, rural lakeside town in East Tennessee.

In their free time, these kids work part-time jobs, take care of younger siblings, play sports (a big focus in our town), and volunteer and relax with faith-based groups. These kids love football and skateboarding, huntin', fishin', four-wheelin' and muddin', playing video games, and driving to the "big city" to go shopping and see movies. They're funny and insightful, unpredictable and contrary, capable and respectful--in short, they are an all-around good group of teens!

My Project

I am asking for 12 18" Virco brand plastic chairs to replace the most desperately broken of my classroom seats. By giving my students sturdy new chairs, you will be freeing up their minds to focus on learning rather than on rocking back and forth on their broken chair leg. You will also be helping them by giving them a pleasant classroom environment free of distractions.

A firm foundation is necessary for any great structure--help me to better teach my students by taking their minds off their broken chairs.
