Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Our school is a Title I school with 100% free lunch. Students often come to school late which causes them not to get breakfast in the morning due to cafeteria rules and regulations regarding timing. The cafeteria stops breakfast at 8:10 A.M., which causes the late arrivals not to get breakfast. Students often come starving because they didn't have food at home for dinner or had nothing before school. This limits their ability to focus and get the best out of them academically. In some cases, it affects the child’s ability to behave in the classroom, and then it becomes a behavior problem because they are hungry. By providing our classroom with snacks, students are able to come freely to take a snack when they are feeling hungry. Some of my students also need to take a snack home for when they get hungry at night when they are not with me. These snacks mean everything to the students and it makes a significant difference in our learning environment throughout the day.
