This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My first graders always walk in with smiles on their faces, ready to learn. They always strive for academic readiness no matter what the situation is.

This pandemic with COVID-19 and the winter storm that hit Texas this weekend has caused an enormous amount of social emotional stress on my students and parents.

My students come from a very low socio-economic area, with very few resources to engage them in learning. The students that make up my classroom are 99% low income and at risk for dropping out before finishing high-school.

I want to build a stress free foundation in my classroom, so when they leave my classroom they are motivated and excited about learning. I want them to carry the passion of learning with them forever. Your support and generosity is greatly appreciated.

My Project

Our school is a Title I school with 100% free lunch. Students often come to school late which causes them not to get breakfast in the morning due to cafeteria rules and regulations with timing. The cafeteria stops breakfast at 8:10 A.M., which causes the late arrivals not to get breakfast. Students often come starving because they didn't have food at home for dinner or had nothing before school. This limits their ability to focus and get the best out of them academically. In some causes it affects the child’s ability to misbehave in classroom and then it becomes a behavior problem because they are hungry. By providing our classroom with snacks, students are able to come freely to take a snack when they are feeling hungry. The storage containers will protect the snacks from getting stale and also from creatures. Some of my students also need to take a snack home for when they get hungry at night when they are not with me. These snacks mean everything for the students and it makes a significant difference in our learning environment throughout the day.
