My Project
Our class has decided to start a student-led food pantry that will serve all seven of our second-grade classes, as well as students' families in need. Students will take the lead in organizing food donations, sorting the items, and distributing them to those in need. They will also be involved in raising awareness of the pantry to encourage more donations and help others understand how they can contribute.
The food pantry will serve the school community, including students who may need extra food support, as well as their families at home.
Many families within our school district face challenges related to food insecurity, and this pantry will provide them with easy access to nutritious, shelf-stable foods. The students’ service will help reduce hunger in our school and community, giving children and families the support they need to feel more secure and succeed both academically and personally.
We are requesting materials such as cereal, soup, granola bars, pudding, Jello, beef jerky, mac & cheese, oatmeal, and peanut butter. These items are practical because they have long shelf lives and are easy for students to take home and eat without needing electricity. With these materials, students will be empowered to lead the initiative, organizing donations and ensuring families receive the food they need. These items will also help provide nutritious meals for students who may not otherwise have enough food at home.
