Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students brim with untapped potential. They are curious, creative and love hands-on projects. Though they all have special learning needs, not one of them can be defined by any one label. They are each unique and a work-in-progress, much like their teacher!

My students love technology and will willingly do all school work on computers!

I hope to ignite a passion for science and nurture their passion for technology so that they can become inventors and scientists of the future.

My Project

My students have had a trying year with technology. Our laptops were old and ailing to begin with! But now, nearly 10 months later, they have given up on us one by one!

Having fully functional, efficient computers in the classroom is essential in our quest to provide equitable access to education for students with disabilities.

For some of my students, using computers in the classroom acts as motivation when everything else fails. For others, computers serve as assistive technology - for example, I have many students who access digital books and read them using the text to speech software. We use a wide variety of software programs and tools to learn new content, practice skills, take formative and summative assessments, create presentations/animations/videos, collaborate on group projects, and much more. Many of our text books are also available online, along with interesting supplemental content.

I feel that Chromebooks are the correct investment for my self-contained classroom. The laptops themselves are lightweight, start up quickly, last long and have enough features and functionality for my students. It is my hope that we can begin the 2019-20 academic year with 12 new Chromebooks and a renewed sense of motivation to learn. I can assure you that your donation will be transformative in that it will significantly impact the learning of each and every student in my classroom.
