My Students

This year in my World History class, we have had the opportunity to incorporate technology like never before with Google Classroom. We interact using PearDeck, take surveys to check in with students, do quizzes online, and use virtual flashcards with interactive games weekly. This is just the beginning of what I hope to do with them!

All students are expected to bring their own laptop to school daily.

For some students, this is not possible due to their financial situation. Some students originally had laptops but are unable to repair it when needed. Others lack the commitment to bring it daily because they do not value academics as we hope they would. Having a few extra laptops in class gives these students NO EXCUSE not to do their work. We need a place to store and charge these laptops so that the classroom is a more equitable place! I have 5 classes with 183 tenth grade students.

My Project

I have salvaged 10 laptops that were deemed "ewaste" for my students to use in class as needed! This is so helpful to my lower income students and to those who need a little extra help to achieve. With a few devices available to use in class, there's never any excuse to not be able to do the work and learning.

These laptops are currently scattered about the classroom and stacked on top of one another.

We need a place to charge and store the laptops in an organized fashion. The way they're stored now poses a risk to screens being cracked, laptops being dropped, and may reduce the time we're able to use them. With a charging station, it will also be easier to ensure that the laptops are charged and ready for students to use every class period!
