This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I have a long list of classroom projects that I want to do with my ninth graders but we need the materials to be able to do them. I believe that art supports students'students'™ different learning styles and fosters rich and enjoyable experiences that support them in expressing their ideas and feelings.

I teach 9th grade at a newcomers' school.

I have 84 students who come from every corner of the world. All of my students are immigrants and are in the process of learning a new language. My students love to come to school and be part of our wonderful class community. They are curious and hard working and most of all, they love doing projects.

My Project

In order to do art projects in my class, I need large sheets of paper, craft paper, markers crayons, supplies for collages, and brushes. I would like to do an art project in every unit that we study in social studies, so my students can share what they are learning with each other and the rest of the school. I think art it is particularly important for newcomer students who are learning a new language and need multiple ways to express their ideas.

I want to create an environment where I can foster my students' creativity while they are studying academic topics.

In a social studies classroom, there are many opportunities to incorporate art into the curriculum. For example, when we learned about the Silk Road, my students created a collage of their own journeys. Having the right materials will help me create art projects to support all learning areas.
