My Students

My students are a group of highly energetic, amazing children with autism in grades 1-5. Many students with autism have difficulties in learning new information, communicating and social interaction. These difficulties are often compounded by sensory overload that they experience daily.

My students are energetic, enthusiastic learners.

The students I teach range from mild to severe on the autism spectrum. Finding activities that can encompass all my little learners can be difficult! I teach in an urban elementary school in Wisconsin with a high poverty rate. All of my kids have excellent attendance and have a love of learning!

My Project

I am requesting sets of non-fiction chapter books to use during small group reading instruction. Having classroom sets of books will enable each student to have a book to read and take home while we are completing our novel studies. Our school does have some fiction sets of books, but I would like to expose my class non-fiction chapter books as well.

These captivating books will not only engage my students, but also get them excited to learning about real people and events.

Exploring standards through novels makes the assignments more rigorous but also more fascinating. These books will be used for many years to come and help numerous students!
