This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My football players are some of the greatest kids on the planet. I have been fortunate enough to teach and coach in the greatest city in the world (NYC) and all these kids want to do is better themselves and play football together. We have become a very tight-knit family and are as close as any team can possibly get. A lot of the kids cannot afford cleats or quality athletic gear but it does not stop them from getting better every day, on and off the field.

Most of the kids I coach have grown up quickly at a very young age.

They pick up their younger siblings before and after practice because they have been tasked with that responsibility. They have to be very mature at a young age but yet still have that commitment and drive to play football.

I have never been more proud to coach a group of young individuals that I am at my school. All I want to do is make these kids experience the best it can possibly be, and so far, we have been able to provide that for them.

My Project

In order to bring our football program to the next level, we are hoping to add a couple of important items that will help get us to where we want to be. Our program is only in its second year on the varsity level, so a lot of things that other programs have, we don't. In order to be a successful football program, you need to be able to record, watch, and study every game. We currently have no video camera to do that, so we are hoping to add this to our program so we can provide our athletes for the highest possible chance for success.

Our student-athletes deserve to have the same chance of success as every other program.

Since we are a newer program, we don't have key items like a communication system for our coaches. This allows the coaches to manage the game better based on what you can see from on top of the field instead of on the sidelines. Being able to adjust and adapt during a game is crucial and you can only do that if you multiple viewpoints and angles. Having a solid communication system is crucial for the success of a football team.

If we were able to get these items for our program, our student-athletes would be incredibly grateful and excited. They love this sport and they love playing it. If we could add to their experience by giving them a better chance at success, then that is what we are doing to do. It's time to take our program to the next level!
