Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Give this project a boost!
A chain reaction of support starts with one share.
From start to finish, a day in my classroom is bursting with insights and energy. My class is full of seven- and eight-year-old students who have an incredible passion for learning, in spite of their hard circumstances.
One hundred percent of the students at our school qualify for free breakfast and lunch due to their low-income status.
Many of the students come from difficult home lives, and school is their place to feel safe and loved.
In addition to being a highly-impacted, Title I population, my class is classified as a Language Acquisition Development class. Nearly all of the students in my class are English Learners who are not yet proficient in English. Despite their circumstances, they come to school ready to learn and grow.
My Project
Our school recently implemented 1:1 Chromebooks for our students. While this an amazing opportunity, now we are looking for programs to use with our Chromebooks.
Nearpod is an amazing program that allows students to follow along and interact with a teacher's lesson using their own device.
Nearpod supports interactive lesson elements such as virtual field trips, real-time quizzes embedded in lessons, memory tests, matching games, note-taking, and videos. Additionally, having the Nearpod Platinum subscription will give me access to over 7,000 ready-made lessons.
These features will help to engage students in lessons by making them active participants. They also will help to provide instant data about how students are doing with a concept. Additionally, going digital with Nearpod will help cut down on supply costs as much of the paper-pencil work we do can be done on Nearpod. This will lessen the amount of paper we use and reduce the number of pencils and whiteboard markers I buy out-of-pocket each year.
I will be able to use Nearpod daily to engage students throughout lessons in all content areas including reading, writing, math, science, and social studies.
