My Students

Due to the coronavirus pandemic, my students and I have been forced to transition to distance learning mainly using Zoom video calls and our online learning platform, Schoology. Even without the amenities of being on the school campus, the learning continues and my students are still putting in the effort to participate as much as they can. The resources I am using to teach have been Zoom, Google Slides, and NearPod so that we all can interact with each other and provide feedback during class.

My students are predominately low-income, and 100% of my students qualify for the Federal Free Lunch program.

From 9th grade freshmen that are getting their first taste of high school science to 12th grade seniors preparing to study engineering in college, my students are all resilient young adults who have a passion and drive for learning. What I love about my students is that they try their best to learn the content which includes doing practice problems, engaging in discussions, and doing projects.

My Project

To be able to provide the best learning experience for my students during distance learning, I am trying to simulate the features of my classroom as much as possible. Some aspects of my classroom have been easy to modify in a way that works for a digital space, while others have been much harder to replace online. As a Physics teacher, there has been one major aspect of my classroom that has been nearly impossible to find a substitute for, so far... my whiteboard.

The dexterity and motion of a pen in your hand, gliding across a smooth surface, is a marvel of human evolution that cannot be recreated by even the finest advancements in robotics.

Even in the modern age of technology, there is no substitute for handwriting physics equations and drawing diagrams. A touchscreen device like this iPad Pro is one of the only things capable of capturing the unique markings left by this Apple Pencil, markings that are just waiting to be interpreted and understood by my students to better their understanding of the world around them.
