Who will be our next president? It's the question of the season. Weekly Reader is a subscription that teaches children current events, science, holidays, and other pertinent subjects. It is never to early to start children reading and learning. Weekly Reader is a child friendly periodical that captures children's interest and spark's their imagination. One of my goals this year is to have the children speak in class and express themselves. The children will orally discuss the news each week in class after discussing this at home and this will give us the opportunity to work on language development. For example, if we have read about pumpkins, they can retell what they have learned and discuss all the different things that can done with pumpkins. We can make pumpkin pie, pumpkin bread, pumpkin pudding, we can paint pumpkins or turn them into a jack o'lantern by carving a face. I teach 18 loving four year olds who are coming to school for the first time. My students' come from a struggling, high needs, urban neighborhood in New York. The parents of our students' are working hard to make a better life for their families and desire a stellar education for their children. Each week, the children will receive a colorful "Weekly Reader" that will teach many themes. For example, in the Fall issue they will learn about fire safety, Autumn, and the presidential election. The children will feel so important and proud to bring home their magazines each week. It is also a wonderful home/school connection and a terrific resource. My students' also need Weekly Reader to help build reading skills and to learn about the society they live in as well as different cultures around the world. This magazine will inspire and motivate my young students. This particular Weekly Reader is designed for pre-kindergarten and will teach across all curriculum areas especially science and social studies. Please help two classes of pre-k learn from using Weekly Reader. By using this periodical, my young learners will be on their way to becoming better educated and will learn early to be concerned about the world in which they live.
