My Students

I have always been told that it is important to know what's going on in the world around us. Having information and learning something new in a fun way is important to our students...they are the future!

I teach deaf and hard of hearing students in a low poverty area in Michigan.

They are very creative and loving students that love to try new things. Due to their hearing loss they are very hands-on and visual learners that love to learn through creating projects and different fun and exciting ways.

My Project

My students are not exposed to the news that much. When we had a discussion about the newspaper some of them didn't know what I was referring to. A lot of those small things that regular hearing people might hear just by chance, they don't always catch it because of their hearing loss. Listening to the news for me was one of those things I overheard as a child. But as you know, the news to children can be boring. With the scholastic news articles and books I will introduce the news to them in a different light and have them use the information in the articles to make research papers and even record them as they present their topic as if they were a news reporter. These scholastic projects will help my students learn about the world around them in a new an exciting way.

With your donations you will help my visual/hands-on learners learn about different facts in the world around us and create presentations and projects that will help them retain the new information taught in class.

This will also help prepare them for the future and learn the importance of reading the news to know more about the world around us.
