My Students

Creating a budget.....Promoting.....Advertising........Project-Based Learning!

Introducing my English language learners to new ways of thinking through project-based learning is one of my roles.

Working to foster the school-community relationships between my high school English learners and staff creates connection and engagement. The English language learners at this mainstream high school add richness of life experience, language and culture to the school community. These students yearn to be a critical, seen part of their school experience. Project based learning opportunities expose students to careers ideas, to hobbies ideas and to simply develop an appreciation for critical thinking skills.

My Project

Through this project-based learning project, ESL Newcomers will create a real-life experience of building a budget, communicating through technology as well as face-to-face while creating a network of support for their English development in the school community!

A Coffee Cart will provide an opportunity for newcomer students to learn the academic language of money, like cash, discount, budget, deal, credit, profit/loss, market and currency through social interactions and team work.

Through the Coffee Cart, students will level-up their understanding of common English Phrases used to talk about like, "Money doesn’t grow on trees," "Give a ball park figure," and "Break the bank."
