My Students

The New York State 4th Grade Social Studies curriculum focuses on New York and the role it has played in American history. Our classroom does not have a sufficient amount of books for the children to truly get a in depth understanding of the history of our great state.

My children are fourth grade students, many of whom have immigrated to America with their families.

Our school, which is located in New York City, has a large population of immigrant children, mainly of Asian decent. Our school's motto is "Believe it, Achieve it!", and that is what we try to teach our students- that if they believe in themselves and try hard, they can achieve what their heart desires.

My Project

These books will help my students to truly grasp an understanding of the tremendous role New York has played in American history. Since many students have barely left their neighborhoods, these books will help them explore the wonderful city and state of which they are residents. We will be able to use these books for our classroom read alouds as well as for independent reading and research.

It's no secret that many Americans today have a poor sense of American history.

As a lover of history myself, I strive to make sure that my students will not turn out this way. I try to make my classroom rich in history, but do not have enough books to completely do so. By enriching my students' lives in history from an early age, I hope to turn them into history lovers as well as model U.S. citizens that will help shape our nation's future.
