The students in our urban district are economically disadvantaged; the district qualifies for free breakfast and lunch for all students. I teach at a college preparatory high school that has a visual and performing arts magnet program within the high school.
Our district is recovering from a multi-year financial crisis and after many job and program cuts has recently been able to start investing in the arts again.
However, there are still many things we need to grow our program and help promote our district.
My Project
I have the opportunity to request a MIDI keyboard that works with my computer to digitally write out and transpose music for my students. It's currently on sale, and I'd love to be able to purchase it for my classroom.
In the fall, generous donors also helped me to purchase a binding machine to make the students' materials look professional on a limited budget.
I've been busy binding the students' piano books for the new semester. We are using quite a few of the plastic combs and are in need of refills! I'd also like to get some more sizes to be able to bind larger books.
Nearly all students from low‑income households
