My Students

My special needs students love to help out! Every morning we begin our day fulfilling the classroom jobs that each student is assigned to. My students look forward each and every day to completing their task, whether it be cleaning the desks, wiping the boards, or organizing the learning centers!

My class consists of 12 students with emotional disabilities.

We are located a District 75 school in an extremely high poverty area of New York City. The staff at my school would do anything to help the students, but unfortunately we have no money for the resources that the students need. My students have a lot of challenges when it comes to learning in the classroom. Structure and organization are a big part of modifying my students behaviors. When my students get upset, it not only affects them, but it affects the other students in the class as well. They get very upset very quickly and it might thrown them off for the rest of the school day. My goal for my students is to give them the skills that they need in order to be successful in their future.

My Project

My students need these supplies so that they can complete their daily classroom jobs. Many of my students have very little outside of school and look forward each and every day to coming to school. The responsibilities that we give these students each day is something that they are not given at home and it is very important for them to learn these skills. When my students complete their classroom jobs, it helps fulfill a purpose that they do not feel at home. In my classroom, we work in rotating learning centers so that we can meet all types of learning needs. We incorporate different skills so that all learning types will be able to find something that they are good at in each lesson. The students also need new independent resources to practice these skills. Because my students have emotional disabilities, it is important as a teacher to give my students the skills to be able to work with each other.

This donation will help improve my classroom by teaching my students responsibility and giving them structure each and every day.

My students have emotional disabilities and need a structured environment in order to do well. These donations will help my students lives for the better because learning a sense of responsibility will help them for the rest of their lives. Any donations are greatly appreciated when helping my students with special needs be successful!
