This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Project
This will be my second year teaching 5th grade ELA at MIS in Northwest Indiana. One of the areas where the students really need to grow is in writing. The items in this project will help with improving their overall writing and writing stamina.
So many students are reaching the upper elementary grades still struggling to write pieces longer than a paragraph.
By having them not only focus on the different types of writing, but also on daily journaling, they will get that much closer to the goal of being competent writers.
The composition books will be their daily journals, while the markers will be used for whiteboards and other group activities. The stress balls will be for those students who become anxious when asked to write.
More than half of students from low‑income households
