My students speak Spanish as their first language. They come from a variety of backgrounds, and they all bring their individual set of gifts to our classroom. They face diverse challenges related to their disabilities. Some of them are emerging and finding their voices, but the others are still working intensely on finding a way to communicate. Some are physically able to move independently, while others are not.
They all do their best every day on learning and having fun.
Students with special needs learn differently than their peers in general education. They need individual practice to master basic academic skills that others learn easily. Grasping, manipulating, and removing objects demands lots of practice.
Some of my students are emerging and finding their voices, but the others are still working intensely on finding a way to communicate. They will get there!
Our classroom needs materials to ensure our students' engagement in a fun learning environment.
My Project
I like to always provide a welcome environment to each of our students. I personally create individualized schedules and other visuals to meet each student needs. To ensure we foster independence, we adapt those resources based on the mastering of different skills.
I divided my project in three different areas: supplies to create new resources, organization resources, and resources to support our students with durable and reusable manipulatives.
The materials to create new resources allows me to create theme related visuals and schedules without having to leave my classroom. I will be able to print, laminate, cut, and set up schedules without leaving the classroom. The boxes and tape will help me to provided organization systems for my classroom. Lastly the hold-a-ring walking rope and pencil grips will provide support to students during any transition and writing activities.
