Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

Students' lives are being improved with growing technology in our classroom. I teach fourth grade in a low income, high-need, 50% low-income community. I am new to this school, which hasn't been making adequate progress in the past three years, and decided to make a difference. My students need to see and feel that there is hope out there for them, and that they too can be successful.

I applied and received a grant for a Smartboard, laptop, and other new technology for our classroom. This an excellent opportunity for my students to experience all that education has to offer. Our school has limited resources and cannot provide all that they need.

We need a scanner/printer in our classroom that will interact with the Smartboard. This Smartboard allows the students to touch and manipulate pictures on the screen. With a scanner, I can scan any items and let the students touch and manipulate them as needed. This allows them to actively engage in activities during Math, Reading, Science, Social Studies, even Writing. Most importantly, it also empowers the "quiet ones" to participate more in class; and therefore learn. With the printer, we can print what we learned in class that day and the students can take it home for review. I can also print a copy for any absent student, and therefore help him/her catch up.

Please help make learning fun and meaningful! Can you imagine a classroom where the kids can't wait to learn? A class where they can "touch" fractions, pyramids, and even sentences?
