Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

By the end of the year, I would love for my kiddos to not only feel prepared for third grade but to be eager to further their learning experiences. I want to instill a passion for lifelong learning in my students with the intent that that fire never burns out.

My students are 96% low socioeconomic status and most are English as a Second Language learners that are very energetic and love to learn already!

Their very friendly and welcoming with great social skills among their peers. My school is incredibly beautiful and historical but also has a few classroom that need a lot of TLC, especially in the portables where I am.

My Project

Most of the things on my list are to help my students feel comfortable in the classroom. If they are comfortable and relax, their creativity and concentration will just flow out. I requested flame retardant curtains for safety against fires and the sun during the hot, Houston weather school months, which seems to be most! The bean bags are for their individual reading corner where they pick a book of their choosing to read. The last thing on my list is a listening center for us to use during English/Language Arts centers. The students will receive a book and listen while following along to the story. This helps them sound out the words and recognize them by sight.

This project would really help make a difference in helping my students feel safe and comfortable in an unknown and sometimes intimidating environment.

When students are relaxed and comfortable they seem to enjoy the learning process much more and have fun!
