The State of Hawai'i is implementing revised Common Core Standards for English Language Arts in the '25-'26 school year. Some of the changes include adding handwriting, a more specific focus on grade-level phonics, and requiring text evidence for many of the standards.
I have created a list of materials that will help me in preparing for and teaching the new reading standards.
For example, I have added handwriting supplies like pencil grips and tracing boards to help students improve the legibility of their writing! I also added materials to create and store games for students to practice things like prefixes, suffixes, or roots. Finally, I requested classroom posters that reinforce the standards, so that my students can refer to them when needed!
